Getting Data from Macro Enabled Excel Workbook

Any advice on what I should do to get my data from and .xlsm file. When I use the data connector to connect to the file everything seems to work but when I try to retrieve the data it shows blank. I have saved the same table in a normal .xlsx file as a work around  and it works that way but I would prefer to have this work from one location ( to  keep things as simple as possible for others to maintain ).

I tried to retrieve it through one drive as well as excel for business. Both ways the .xls file worked and the .xlsm file did not.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks

If you want to get data from an Excel sheet on an xlsm file, then this Azure Function template may work: https://community.powerplatform.com/galleries/gallery-posts/?postid=eea06380-8483-ef11-ac21-7c1e5201b42f

    Hi ,

Thanks for your response. It is not working for me!

I have a large excel [macro-enable file, .xlsm] file of which I need 1 sheet/page of data. Since Power Apps can't connect to .xlsm file, I tried to save it as .xlsx/ .xls -but then it complains that the file size is too big.

I just copied that worksheet [even tried just to copy the data] and created a new .xlsx workbook. I selected the data and then selected "Format as Table"; I didn't get any small window popping up with a check box with "My table has header"! Also, the table is detected as a Pivot table. I saved the file and closed.  Tried to connect from Power Apps [with Add data ...], but when I selected the file, I am still getting the error!

Looks like it can't find the table.

I tried to find in "Design" tab if the table has a name/ if I have to rename the table! But I can't find the "Table Name" piece. There is always MS updates happening, not sure where the "Table name" piece is hiding now!

I would appreciate it if you could help in this. Many thanks!

Getting Data from Macro Enabled Excel Workbook

    Hi@Trent-Stokes,

Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to access your xlsm file in PowerApps?

Could you please share a bit more about the scenario?

Actually, you are right. The .xlsm file is not supported in PowerApps currently. Even though the Excel Online(Business) connector can only get contents of xls and xlsx files. Working with macro-enabled files is currently not supported yet.

If you want this feature to be added, you could raise an idea in our idea forum.

As an alternative solution, you could consider renaming the file type. Please modify the file extensions as below:

    FileName.xls

    Hope it could help.

    Regards,

    Qi
