Custom CoPilot not appearing in Microsoft Word

I've previously created a CoPilot agent that is working within Teams.  The initial authentication was 'manual' but has recently been changed to Microsoft Authenticated so I can have the bot appearing online in Microsoft365 (which it does).

Online tutorials show that once you have it in M365 as a selectable agent, it should also appear inside of the Microsoft Word App, where the agent can be selected for direct use.

I've waited about 3 days and there's still no sign of it appearing within Microsoft Word.  The agent has been republished and changes did appear within Teams, so I know the republish worked.

Summary
The agent does NOT appear within Microsoft word online or within the App.
  • Authentication is set to Microsoft 365
  • The agent was republished
  • The agent appears in Teams for a selected group of users.
  • The agent appears in M365 and the agent can be selected to communicate with
  • I've updated Office on my computer
  • I've waited over 3 days in case there was a delay
  • Computer has been restarted several times
  • I've selected a few 'By Microsoft Apps' such as Frontier, Writing Coach, Prompt Coach and they all appear in M365 and within the Word App
Can anyone give me insight into why it is not appearing within the Word App?

As of May/2025, I'm not aware about a solution for deploying a Copilot Studio Agent to MS Word. You mentioned that it was mentioned in a few online tutorials: would you mind to share some of them, so I can investigate further?

An alternative could be work with an Office Add-In, as recommended in this thread: https://community.powerplatform.com/forums/thread/details/?threadid=2c7e0304-a4d8-4a93-a8a5-b004d0d14ed0

    Hello,

I am having a similar issue. The link below shows you how to "Get Agents" (I am assuming the agent I created and made available in Microsoft 365 would be what I want to "Get"). However, if you follow the directions it just redirects you to the directions.

I would really like to determine if this functionality is something that should work or something that is planned for the future.

This is my first post so apologies if there are issues with it.

    Thanks!

According to this message center link General Availability of Declarative Agents in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint (Web) - M365 Admin and this article m365copilot-docs/docs/declarative-agent-document-interaction.md at main · MicrosoftDocs/m365copilot-docs · GitHub and from this video Build Your Own Custom Copilot Agent for Word | Full Walkthrough + Real Use Case Agents created in COpiulot studio should work within office apps like word. But they doesn't seem to work. Is there any additional configuration required.

I've had a support ticket with MS open now for months and there is no resolution yet.  Bounced around several teams and different MS support agents.

This should actually work but it doesn't.  Very very recently inside of Word, the custom agent has actually appears BUT it's greyed out and can't be used.  I'm meeting all the criteria for it to work as far as can be seen.

I'm convinced this is a case of MS boasting about a feature availability when they haven't actually finished it yet and/or haven't made it mainstream for us to use.
