I'm aware that we can share canvas apps with external users, but is it possible to do the same with a model-based application?
@MikS
Yes.
Step 1: Invite Guest User just as you would usually do for this kind of thing.
Step 2: Check the below
Check https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/share-model-driven-app
On the Power Apps site select Apps, next to the model-driven app you want to share select …, and then select Share.
Important
The steps to share a model-driven app are different from a canvas app. For steps to share a canvas app, see Share a canvas app in Power Apps.
Under Assign users to the security role select Security Users.
From the list of enabled users select the users that you want to grant access to your app, and then on the command bar select Manage Roles.
In the Manage User Roles dialog box, select the Common Data Service User security role, and then select OK.
Add security roles to the app
Share the link to your app
Works with sum strange effects, but works. The question is - is this a supported way of using model-driven apps?
