The Project for Web Accelerator created by the Microsoft PowerCAT team is a great light-weight project management alternative to the full Microsoft Project for Web service. It provides a lot of functionality relating to project intake, overview, and reporting. The Accelerator does not have a hard requirement for Project for Web licenses. You can still use it with limited functionality However there is a prerequisite for its installation.
When installing the Project for Web Accelerator in an environment where no one is licensed with Project for Web P1, P3, or P5 licenses, a few of the Dynamics 365 apps are missing. This will likely result in an error message about missing prerequisites:
The missing entities get deployed with the Microsoft Project Service Core app. If your organization is not actively using Project for Web but still wants to deploy the accelerator, then you should follow these steps:
- Sign-up for Trial P3 license
- Assign it to the user who is performing the installation
- Go to the environment you are installing the Project for Web Accelerator on and add the Microsoft Project Service Core app (note: you may have to wait a little while until the app appears as an option after the license was applied)
- Install the Project for Web Accelerator
- Remove the Trial P3 license
This should let you proceed with the setup and usage of the accelerator.
