Moving Canvas powerapps from SharePoint as a data source to DataVerse tables

Hello, I have a fairly complex power app with multiple forms, linked to around 6 SharePoint lists making up more than 200 individual fields. On top of that I have several workflows updating/creating items in these lists etc... and each have hundreds of manually mapped fields.

It has now come to my attention that within a couple of years some of the lists will have upwards of 10,000 records once the App goes live. This will make reporting a bit difficult because of the 5000 items limitation on SP list views and it might also impact the Apps performance.

What is my best way forward here? I am looking for general ideas. The app is still not in production. I was looking into the dataverse however I have never used it before. Is there an easy way to move my app and workflow data sources?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @lukegatt

The first thing is that if it is an application that will handle that volumetrics you must go to the database. In this sense, the recommendation is to go to Dataverse.

The first thing you should do is set up the relational model of your data so that your application has similar behavior. There is no tool that allows you to migrate exactly what you have.

But you can use dataflow but the biggest challenge will be the data model. I attach the official Dataflow documentation
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/data-platform/create-and-use-dataflows

On the other hand, being able to take advantage of the app you have designed will not be so simple because the fields do not have the same behavior. You will have to replace the data sources and then see the behavior

On the other hand, you can keep in mind that you can develop Model Driven Apps

I was in a very, very similar situation and chose to go the Dataverse/Model driven app, with some embedded canvas apps, and I am very happy.

Had 2 canvas apps utilizing 6 SP lists linked via tons of power automate flows. Was a nightmare. Model app and DV is so nice.

    Edit:

    1) Some of my main tables contain about 20k new records yearly, one even more than that.

    2) Moving is going to be a nightmare, sorry. SharePoint is not nice.
