Upgrading Non-Delegable Functions in Power Apps: Future Plans and Possibilities

I have developed an app using Power Apps that imports data from Microsoft List. However, since I have used some non-delegable functions, the app’s efficiency will decrease as the data volumes increase. I am curious if there are any ongoing or future plans to upgrade all currently non-delegable functions to be delegable. This would allow me to avoid modifying the app’s current version to meet the required standard.

If not, I was wondering if Copilot can help me easily modify the codes that have more than 1000 lines. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, tutorials, and tricks I should be referring to.

The problem is that by nature the delegalbility of a function is dependent on the back end data source. If the data source doesn't have the capability to filter based on a type of field there is nothing that Power apps can do to make the function delegable. Spots where we have seen improvement in delegation are based on the handling of data inside Power apps.  For example, filtering based on complex objects like choice columns is now based on the data type of the property in the object being used for filtering. In the past it was just not delegable. So I don't expect that you will see major advances in making more functions delegable because the Power Apps team can't control what capabilities are built into the back end data sources.

Thank you for your prompt response. Would it be appropriate to post this question on the Microsoft List forum, or should I focus on upgrading the app since there is no likelihood of a solution?

@yohannes_adeba - as @Pstork1 correctly says, delegation support depends on the data source. For example, Dataverse provides far better delegation support than Microsoft SharePoint/Microsoft List.

For example, the 'contains' and 'in' operators are delegable in Dataverse, and there is delegation support for aggregate functions such as Sum, Count, etc.

IMO, it is unlikely that Microsoft will prioritise upgrading non-delegable functions to be delegable in Microsoft Lists.  Doing so would disincentivise users from upgrading to Dataverse, which provides greater licensing revenue for Microsoft.

I suspect that if you post this question on the Microsoft Lists forum, the general response will be the same.

As an alternative, if you can identify the non-delegable aspects of your app, you could create some new posts and someone here may be able to suggest some workarounds to to overcome your delegation limitations.

I would focus on upgrading and app. as @timl says there its doubtful that MS will rewrite support in SharePoint to add better delegation support in Power Apps.  Its two different product teams with different priorities.
