Better way to work with JS web ressources in Model driven apps on Mac

Hope this the correct forum to post this is.

I'm looking for a better way to develop javascript files (web resource) for model driven apps. Currently I either edit the file on the crappy editor in Legacy mode or have to upload the file every time.

On PC it seems that I could use VS/Code to download the sources files and publish changes quickly. Currently I am on a M1 Macbook Pro.

Any tips would be great !

I have the same question (0)

There's a lot of answers to this one, but I think the most popular way to address this is probably through the Web Resources Manager in the XRM Toolbox. This plugin for the toolbox allows you to connect to your environment and view/manage all your webresources directly, including the ability to update and publish, all from one UI.

Thank you for your reply @cchannon .

I am looking for an approach that works natively on a Mac.

Yeah, sorry, that's just not a nut that anyone feels particularly motivated to crack.

The problem is this: When building server-side plugins for Dataverse, we can still only use .net 4.6.2 - it's been this way for ages and so all the prodevs on the platform sling 4.6.2 like champs. But unfortunately 4.6.2 is part of that ancient class of .net Framework which could only be shipped with Windows. It is actually only just in the last couple months that a client C# SDK for .net 6 was released (bless you, @MattB-MSFT ), but server-side plugins still have no roadmap for modernizing off 4.6.2. So, despite the fact that all .net up to 4.6.1 is already dead as a doornail, no one that builds tooling for the platform feels any burning need to modernize off what Microsoft seems to be saying will be supported for as long as trees have bark.

Eventually, MSFT will have to modernize plugin execution and move to support more modern .net (@MattB-MSFT  hint hint HINT) and when that happens the prodev community will surely update tooling pretty quickly, but until that day, things like the XRMToolbox will continue to be the only game in town, which means that whether you like it or not, if you want community tooling you're just going to have to run Windows on Mac.

There's much better ways than writing pure JavaScript.  Take a look at @ScottDurow 's amazing FREE TypeScript course here for ideas: https://learn.develop1.net/courses/building-javascript-web-resources-using-typescript
