Hi,

I am creating canvas application with dataverse as the backend.

What is the best way to create unique id column in dataverse?

Can I use Primary Name column for auto generated unique id number?

Please advise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. After you create the table, go back and edit the Name column to have the data type of AutoNumber. You may have to make it an Optional column, so the user isn't required to populate it (it will be auto generated once the record is created).

Hello @aaedla,

As per OOB Behavior, in each table there is a Column Available with Primary Key but that is related to GUID Field.
If you want you can use the same else create a New Field with AUTONUMBER and set the Numbering Mode and use the same.

You can set the Prefix and the Seed too

Hi @aaedla :

All Tables in the Dataverse will automatically generate a Column of type "Unique Identifier", and his DisplayName is usually the name of the table.You could get it in this way:

Be wary of this as the Autonumber column does not enforce unique values.
