Required error on submission, fields populated

Hello all,

I have a simple edit form for capturing inspections records.  I have an excel sheet hosted on SharePoint that has the list of Locations (buildings) and the corresponding Units (things we're inspecting) contained in the building.

I do a Lookup for the Location and Unit datacard to populate the combo boxes.  The Unit combo box is dependent on the Location control.

Location combo box:
Items = Distinct(Table1,Location)

Unit combo box:
Items =
If(
    IsBlank(cbLocation.Selected.Value),
    [],
    Filter(Table1, Location = cbLocation.Selected.Value).Unit
)

I have the If statement bc I was getting an error prior to Location being populated.  Upon submission, I get an error that Location and Unit are required.  SS shown below.

Here's by Lookup source for Location and Unit:

I'm confused as to why this is occurring.  The corresponding SharePoint columns of both Location and Unit are both single line text columns.  They are required, but otherwise nothing special.  Any tips here?

    I think the error is not because of the location or unit datacards.

    It is with SharePoint list, for SharePoint list we generally need to fill Title column,we can't keep it null, I think it causes the issue.

    Try a sample patch function, it will give you exact error messages incase you are missing any columns.
    Syntax : Patch(Datasource, Default(Datasource),{Col1: Value1, Col2:Value2})

    I am happy to be corrected, if I am wrong

    Hi, I made the Title column not required in this List.  I usually make it not required in all my Lists and hide it from view.

    How do you propose to use your Patch suggestion?  I'm unclear on how to implement.

    And one question, did you update the datacard update properties?
    You mentioned that you have altered unit and location datacard.
    If you did not change the datacard update properties, the error can come. Please check that

    The Update properties of your Data Cards need to be

    Location
    cbLocation.Selected.Value
    Unit
    cbUnit.Selected.Unit
    Also your filter can be
    Filter(
       Table1,
       Len(bLocation.Selected.Value) = 0 ||
       Location = cbLocation.Selected.Value
    ).Unit

    Also adding a note that if you have SharePoint Lists available, you should seriously consider switching to them as Excel is really the "Data Source of last resort" with Power Apps and probably will cause you a lot of unwanted complexity and limitaitons.

    Hi Warren,

    My Update properties are exactly as you outlined.  Your filter code solved my error on submission, but my Unit combo box is now not readable whereas it was before.  I'm able to make a selection, though I'm not able to read which one and the data writes to SharePoint.

    I'm unsure what to do to solve the ghost options.

    If I replace the combo box with a dropdown control, I get my values back again, though it isn't initially blank despite setting default property to Blank(), [ ], or "".  Data card default value is also set to a default of blank and the form opens with a value already populated.  I'd really prefer the field be blank on opening.

    I'm confused as to why the combo box populates with my filter code (though I get an error) but works as it should with yours besides the text not being readable when choosing an option.

    The DefaultSelectedItems of your Unit Combo Box would be
    {Unit: ThisItem.Unit}
    Although I am wondering how it worked before with the Items you had.

    Hi Warren, I really appreciate your help.  I have my properties set as you outlined.

    My combo box still has unreadable values when selecting.  There are the appropriate number of selections, and the data writes to SharePoint just fine when I select one of the "ghost" items, but the user can't see what the selections are.  Any ideas as to why?

    Can you check the field properties of the combo box. And adjust the field to unit or value. Then it would show real values instead of ghost values

    PowerApps 1919, you pointed me in the right direction..  I had Unit field correct but had a dependent rule set and the second half didn't have a lookup set, but then I realized if my filter was already doing that for me I didn't need the dependent rule so I removed it.

    I'm not sure exactly which thing it was, or the combo of the two but it now works as it should.

    Thank you PowerApps1919 and to you Warren!!

    I'm not exactly sure who to assign the answer too because you both helped solve the problems.
