Filtering on distinct values

Can someone please point me to a good primer on using the Distinct function?

I am BRAND NEW to Power Apps, having just made the switch over from Infopath literally TODAY, so it goes without saying I am as "green" as they come on this topic.

Just working on my won and clicking around I've figured out how to connect a drop-down to a SharePoint list, but this list has thousands of rows and I want to filter by hierarchy: manufacturing Site > Project Number > Deliverable.

In this case there are only about 14 manufacturing sites available, so I want to filter on distinct entries, making only 14 entries in that drop-down (despite being repeated thousands of times in the list). The next would be Project Number, but only those who's Manufacturing Site matches that selected in previous drop-down.

The second one seems like it uses the "Depends on" dialog, which makes sense, but I haven't gotten that far yet since I am till trying to filter Manufacturing Site by distinct values only!

Thank you!

    The name of your sharepoint list is not clear. For a start,
    1. I suggest insert a Gallery and in the items property of the Gallery put your sharepoint list Name there.
    2. On the dropdown, insert a dropdown and set the property items to Distinct(sharepointListname,ColumnName)

    Knowing the name and columnNames would help in this regard.

    You should be able to use the Distinct function. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-distinct

    Hi. Thank you for the response.

    The list name is Master Schedule, and the first column is z_Site. No matter what I did I could not edit anything in the formula bar, so I saved the App, exited and re-started. That fixed THAT part, and now I am able to edit.

    So I re-added a drop-down and put this in formula: Distinct('Master Schedule','z_Site'). No errors, but when I "play" the app the drop down is empty. There is a connection to the Master Schedule which displays under Items in the drop-down properties.

    So I have made a little progress, but not much.

    Use this Distinct('Master Schedule',z_Site)

    instead of Distinct('Master Schedule','z_Site')

    Where there are no spaces between dont bring  single quotes

    @Anonymous

    Could you please change to use Combo box?

    Please ensure the Items property of combo box is Distinct('Master Schedule',z_Site), and Set Primary Text to Result.

    LOL - now I am getting the error shown below.

    Is this 12-column limit fixed? In Power BI for example I can specify a View that reduces the number of columns the connection "sees" without actually deleting any columns.

    The SharePoint sites I have to connect to all have hundreds of columns that cannot be deleted, though I only need to access fewer than a dozen.

    BTW, the Primary Text drop-down is grayed out on my configuration. I am guessing that's because of the failed connection???

    Never mind! I see that this is a known limitation of using PA to connect to (large) SharePoint lists. If the list has more than 12 lookup columns it rejects the connection request.

    I realize this is a dramatic shift in topic, but has anyone found a workaround?

    @Daryl_K

    Yes, the current workaround is to get the data through the 'Send an HTTP Request to SharePoint' action of flow and pass data to the app. More info please refer: https://www.netwoven.com/2018/12/11/how-to-get-filtered-items-from-sharepoint-list-to-powerapps-using-microsoft-flow/
