The export service is not available: There was an error adding an entity to the project

Hi,

Trying to export my CDS entities to import into another environment.

When I try to export, I get 'The export service is not available: There was an error adding an entity to the project.'.  Doesn't seem to matter if I choose one entity, or multiple... same thing.

    Hi@bhalicki,

Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to export CDS entities from one environment to another environment?

Could you please share a bit more about the scenario, how you export CDS entities across the environments?

As far as I know, the issue that you mentioned is a known issue. Our Dev checked in changes to the backend service and introduced some new URL actions to be called from the portal. It looks like these changes have not propagated to all environments. Import/export from the portal is failing in some environments because it cannot find the new URL, and this doesn’t happen very often for sure.

To solve this problem, you could check if your environment is up to date.

In addition, I will introduce how I export CDS entities across the environments.

If this is your first time to exporting CDS entities, creating a new solution would be a better choice. Then click add existing/entity. You'll see an option to only include the entity metadata.

    Hi Qi,
The procedure I am using is:

Data -> Entities -> Export Data -> Choose Entities -> "The export service is not available: There was an error adding an entity to the project."

The database version is: 9.1.0000.23744.  I cannot find an option to update it, so I assume I am using the latest.

Creating a solution allows me to move the entities between environments, but it doesn't allow me to move the data (which is what I really need).

Is there a way to fix this issue?  I can see posts relating to the same issue since 2019, so I guess it has been a problem for a while.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    Hi@bhalicki,

Yes, this has been a known issue for years. Currently, it will happen now and then.

By the way, could you please check if you have enough licenses?

The "Export" feature/functionality is not supported in CDS of PowerApps Community Plan currently. If you want to export an Entity in your Individual Environment (Community Plan) directly, I am afraid that there is no way to achieve your needs in PowerApps currently.

If you have enough licenses, this known issue could not be solved in a short time. You could open a ticket to our support team to check if this could be solved.

    Hope it could help.

    Best Regards,

    Qi

    Hi Qi,

That probably explains it.. I am using a community plan.  It would be nice if it displayed a useful error message, like 'not enough licenses available' rather than just crashing.  It is a feature that developers do quite often, so I would argue that it should be part of the community plan, particularly as I would like to move the environment from my development environment to an environment with many licenses available.

    Thanks for your help though.

    Kind regards,

    Ben.
