DevOps Pipeline - Deployment post Dataverse column datatype change is failing

  1. In Dataverse we have a column named "Purpose" with data type "Choice".
  2. The customer realized that they would need to type a longer text and text of their own choice. So they are insisting that this column needs to be changed to a "Text" column.
  3. We don't have access to the pre-production and production environment.
  4. The managed solution needs to be deployed to pre-production & production using the DevOps Pipeline.
  5. We already have a pipeline setup and it is working fine.
  6. Now the same pipeline is failing when the solution has the column data type changed.
  • Please ignore the existing data in the pre-production and production environment for that specific column, that will be handled.

What can be the best solution for the pipeline to deploy the solution successfully without losing the other column data?

    You could leave the column in situ and just add another column ?

    Unfortunately not. There are other systems which rely on the internal name of that column to use that data.
