Best Practices for administering Power platform pipelines at enterprise scale

Hi All,

We have recently converted our Environments into Managed environments. Now we have out of the box Pipelines to deploy solutions. There are two types of Host - Platform host and Custom Host. But Platform host supports only Tenant's Home geo region.

Can you please help us with Best practices to implement and administer Pipelines at Enterprise scale. What are the preparedness measures to take from Admin side to avoid managing overhead in future. What are the issues we should keep in mind while rolling out End user guidelines for Pipelines.
I have the same question (0)

Thanks for asking, rarely we see a question on best practices! Based on my experience here are the points:

    • Enforce Consistency: Standardize the creation, deployment, and testing of solutions across environments to minimize inconsistencies and ensure smooth deployments.

    • Manage Access and Permissions: Leverage Microsoft 365 and Azure AD security groups to control access to environments and pipeline features, ensuring only authorized personnel can deploy solutions.

    • Use Metrics and Reporting: Use reporting tools to monitor the health of pipelines and deployments, tracking success rates, failure patterns, and approval workflows.

    • Stay Updated on Platform Changes: Regularly monitor updates to Power Platform, including new pipeline features, Power BI workspace limitations, and supported regions.

    thanks

    Hi @SaiRT14,

    Thanks for your kind response.

Currently in our enterprise, we have Process workflow to provision environments (generally we recommend Dev, Test and Prod environments for each LOB application). All these environments are secured by an AD Security group. All of them are managed environments.

    1.  Given the above, I feel only the environment admins/makers can create Pipelines. Is that true and enough - in terms of standardizing and Access and permissions?
    2. What are the metrics and reporting available to monitor the Pipelines Health centrally?
    3. Is it a good practice to let any environment admins create Pipelines in Platform Host environments? Or should we create Multiple Host environments? Or do you recommend to retain the Pipeline creation responsibility within Central CoE team?
    4. How to deal with those environments in different region than the tenant's home region? They are unable to create pipelines in Platform host? Should we create Custom Host for each region of Environments?
