In late October, functionality was released to allow non-default environments to use a data gateway. Can I have multiple Power Apps environments connecting to a single on-premise Data Gateway?
Actually, that would build a massive bottleneck. Therefore a Gateway is related to an environment. The app using the gateway should be in the same environment to avoid bad performance due to latency and other data center region related issues. The gateway also should be close to where the connection would be. So if for instance using the gateway to connect to an SAP on-premises installation in West Europe the gateway should be installed in a West European environmentAs it is outlined here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/wp-onpremises-gatewayThe server does not have to be the same one as the resources it will proxy access to, however it should be on the same local network to reduce latency. It does however need to be able to access the target resource with as low of latency as possible. Multiple application and flow connections can use the same gateway install.
Thank you for responding. I'm thinking of Dev, Test, and Prod environments where there wouldn't be a bottleneck. We are starting off with 1 production app used by 2 users in one geo. I need to know if it is possible not whether it's a best practice. We can grow into an enterprise multi-gateway solution at a later time when demand/complexity would deem it necessary. Thanks.
A gateway cannot span multiple environments
@Carsten_Growth I assume this has changed since your initial response, as the article now states:
You can use the same gateway in multiple environments as long as the gateway region and the environment region match.
