Migrate apps away from Defaults to other Production environment

Hi All, as part of improved company company governance, I need to migrate business critical PowerApps application away from Default environment to a purpose-built production one. In doing so, is there a way to retain the same App ID? It would be quite important to not disrupt our users.

Hi @MidwinterTrain,

Depends the type of app, for canvas the app ID is not retained but the app name is. This is by design as the app ID is unique across the tenant. For model-driven app the app GUID is retained. It is recommended to migrate the apps and customizations via solutions and everything in theory should be ok. Note that you'll need to migrate the data seperately thouugh as it is not solution aware.

I would think the app id being unique across the tenant would mean it would carry to other environments.

Is there a recommended way to migrate the data?

Thank you Eric. Yes, I should have mentioned I am working with canvas apps. Checking the tool now, thanks again. Not being able to retain the app ID will cause extra work and comms with users, was very much hoping on a smoother process.
