Dev Environments, global search, Replace, and other features

Hi guys,

Our apps are getting big, sometimes, we are missing the ability to global search a replace (e.g. when giving a variable a wrong name, misspelling...etc. Or evern finding out where a collection is created, and where it is used 😞

Is there any editors you use to help with the development in PowerApps? Can Visual Studio do anything with these? Really frustrated that the dev environment gets so slow with bigger applications, and seems to be missing basic functionality 😞

Thanks in advance

Fadi

    Hi @3ation ,

As per your description, you will be able to locate variables creation or leveraging in the View menu:

But in the Collection menu you could only find the list of collections with their result tables. If you would like to find where the collection be created or used, I'm afraid there is no way to achieve your need. Generally, if you are working on a large project, it would be better to record all those collections and variables with their creation, meaning and location as well for you and other developers to edit them later.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks @v-jefferni

We know all that you mentioned above, the issue,  The search / replace all is very useful when you want to search the whole solution, again to my point, this is not a versatile dev environment :(. e,g Recently, we wanted to change form Office365.Profile V1 to V2,  ( Office365Users.MyProfileV2() Vs  Office365Users.MyProfile() ) to our surprise, all V2 start with lowercase, while V1 all start with Upper case!  So now we have to go edit 265 references in our application to fix this 😞 (yah, to say the least we decided to stick to V1 for now!). Also, if we wanted to update where the collection gets its data from, it is VERY hard to find that... (We decided to rename the source table) and now it is nightmare to find locations, or even to do a proper code review. (another bad point for the Dev Environment).   Simply put, After 18 months, we are really frustrated with so many things in the Dev Environment, that we are wasting too much time on simple editing things...

    Hi @3ation ï¼Œ

    I understand your concerns.

I found some ideas in the Idea Forum, if you like it you could vote for it, once the feature added into PowerApps, you'll be informed:

    Hi @v-jefferni

Ideas take years to develop, and not really worth suggesting as ATM we are unlikely to consider the power platform for future development after this project (too late to switch 😞 ) Way too many issues with the platform to be considered as "Professional" and we are struggling, with 4 developers to make it work with check in / check out, and many other issues...
