Can a user see the Business Unit assigned to a record ?

I am using Business Unit security in Dataverse.  I have a Ticket system, where a ticket can be assigned to IT, HR, Supply Chain, ...  Each one has its own Business Unit, so a Ticket for an IT Issue is assigned to the IT Business Unit, HR ticket assigned to HR BU, ...  this way, the staff looking at the tickets only see their tickets.

My question is, a ticket may be assigned to HR and may have confidential info, so only staff in the HR Business Unit can see the ticket (Record) contents.  Problem is , if IT gets a call for a ticket # status update, they can't look up who the Business Unit owner is, as the ticket is not visible to IT Business Unit.

Is it possible for a user that is not in the Owning Business Unit of a record to see who is the current Owning Business Unit of the record.  Because of the way BU Security works, if you are not in the Business Unit, you can't see the record, which makes sense.  However, it would be nice to see who is the current owning Business Unit, yet still not be able to see the record contents.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @Daved1

Please check out "Modern Business Units" as you can assign a user to roles across multiple business units and you can also change the owning business unit of a single record.  https://youtu.be/dVGklfmVr6s?si=L0EZGrF4JcBMRiEF

With Modern Business Units it opens a field called "Owning Business Unit" on the record so this can be visible.

Looking at your business problem, there are some other concepts you might want to review...

    1. Field Level Security Profiles - You can protect specific columns on the table to specific users that are part of the security profile.  Protect SSN and other fields across the business outside of HR (as an example) https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/field-level-security
    2. Access Teams - You can assign an owner to the record but can also assign others to work with the record as well as part of an Access Team.  You can have multiple different Access Team https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/user/access-team

    Hope some of this helps.

Thanks Drew. Lots of good ideas here - I am sure the answer is in here , i just need to decide which is the best way to address my issue.  I like the idea of allowing other groups to see the some fields, but hiding the sensitive information fields with field level security.
