Renaming a field in a nested gallery takes a very long time. Interestingly, I have this now that I am using the modern controls.

    Hi @Frans-Floris,

Renaming a field within a nested gallery can indeed be a time-consuming task, especially when working with modern controls. The intricacies of nested structures and the interactions between controls can sometimes lead to delays in responsiveness.

Here are a few considerations and potential solutions:

    1. Complexity of Nested Galleries:

      • When you have deeply nested galleries or controls, each level of nesting can introduce additional processing overhead.
      • The more complex your app’s structure, the longer it might take to perform actions like renaming fields.
    2. Modern Controls and Performance:

      • Modern controls often come with enhanced features and visual appeal, but they may also introduce additional complexity.
      • While modern controls offer benefits, they might require more computational resources, leading to slower response times.
    3. Optimizing for Performance:

      • Consider the following steps to improve performance:
        • Minimize Nesting: Simplify your app’s structure by reducing unnecessary nesting levels.
        • Limit Data Loading: Load only the data you need for the current view. Avoid loading excessive data upfront.
        • Use Delegation: Leverage delegation to offload data processing to the data source (e.g., SharePoint, SQL).
        • Avoid Heavy Calculations: If possible, perform heavy calculations asynchronously or during app initialization.
        • Profile and Monitor: Use the Performance Analyzer in Power Apps to identify bottlenecks.
    4. Testing and Monitoring:

      • Test your app with different scenarios, including various data sizes and nesting depths.
      • Monitor performance during testing to identify specific areas that need optimization.
    5. Feedback to Microsoft:

      • If you consistently experience slow performance when renaming fields, consider providing feedback to Microsoft through the Power Apps Ideas forum (Navigate to "Submit Ideas" via community tab)
      • Your insights can help improve the platform and address any performance-related issues.

Remember that app performance can be influenced by various factors, including the complexity of your app, the data source, and the specific controls you’re using. As you continue working with canvas apps, keep exploring best practices and optimizations to enhance your development experience!

Thanks for your detailed explanation and response!

Just try building a calendar in power apps without using nested gallaries!

There is nothing else to do but go back to the "old" controls, which all works fine, problems arise after I started working with the modern controls, I find that very strange!

I don't see any other solution at the moment.

By the way, I don't understand what changing a field name has to do with delegation and with data size.

The new controls are going on hold again for a while!

    Hi Frans-Floris,

If going back to the old controls works at the moment, that's fine.

    Thanks,

    Robu1.
