Parent data to Child Record

Hi,

We are trying to create a Model driven app in data verse.

We have a parent table and a child table and its already has a relationship.

At parent level we have 3 fields which we want to bring to child level while creating a child record.

Is there way to bring parent level field data to child.

I have the same question (0)

    Hello @Mridula1

    Hope you are doing good,

Use Can use Quick VIEW to Show the Data from Parent Record to Child Record.

Let me know if you need more clarity.

    1, Navigate to https://make.powerapps.com

    2. Click Tables --> Expand Parent Table --> Select View --> Select Quick View Form

    3. Add the Field you need to show in the Child

    4. Now Save and Publish that

    5. Click the Child Table

    6. Click Forms --> Open the Main Form --> Select Quick View Form --> Click Related and Select the Form which you created in Point 2

    Hi @Mridula1 ,

You can use Relationship field mapping feature to map the field data from parent entity to child entity. Please see below link for more details.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I have tried this option but in this way we are only showing the data but actually storing it at child level. My intension is to store it at child level so that I can build data validation rule on top of it.

    Hi @Mridula1 ,

The mappings given by @bipinshan help when creating the child record from the Parent record in a subgrid or related tab.  This does not populate the data if you start from the child record though and do a "New" and set the Parent record.

Most of the time I do this through a Real Time Workflow https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/data-platform/overview-realtime-workflows.

    1.  Setup the real-time workflow on Create of the child record

    2.  Step with Update record in the workflow and set the fields on child record from the Parent record.

    Hi @dpoggemann ,

This is working fine in my case when ever a child case is created from the parent case sub grid and after saving of the child record then only the data getting updated but I need those fields to be auto populate when a new child record is creating not on the save of child record

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @Hareesh2728 ,

You would need to do this with JavaScript to autopopulate before save then if not coming from a related grid.

    Example post:  https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Dataverse/Model-Driven-App-JavaScript-function-to-populate-related-form/td-p/1397470
