Seeking Advice on Sharing Dataverse Tables via SharePoint

Hi All,

I'm currently working on a project that involves utilizing Microsoft's Dataverse to manage and store data. As part of our collaboration efforts, we're trying to find an efficient way to share a Dataverse table with our team on SharePoint.

I'm interested in any insights or methods that could help facilitate this sharing process. Specifically, I'm looking for guidance on how to integrate Dataverse tables into a SharePoint environment so that team members can easily access and interact with the data.

Has anyone here tackled a similar challenge? If so, could you share your approach, any tools or connectors you used, and any tips for smoothly implementing this integration? Also, I'm curious about managing permissions and ensuring that only authorized personnel can access the data.

Thanks in advance.

    A couple of thoughts:

    • If you integrate Dataverse with SharePoint (lists specifically) - you would use Virtual Tables. But I believe you want to show dataverse data inside of a SPO site/page? or are you looking to have Dataverse data show up in a sharepoint list?  If having a SPO page is what you need, simply create a Canvas app and embed it in the SPO page as one of the available components.
    • Note that any integration and use of dataverse data is going to make you apps premium and you will need to license all users that need to use that app.
    • A canvas app will take into account the logged in user's account and security roles in dataverse and show only what they are able to see. You'll have to assign security roles to your users appropriately.
    • If you're interacting heavily with the data, perhaps a common model-driven app is the better alternative than embedding an app in a SPO page. Really depends on where all the data sources are or at least a majority of them but if it's primarily dataverse, stick to canvas apps or model-driven apps.
    • I don't recommend pushing data to SP Lists - synchronization will not be easy and likely error prone if it's a two way sync.
