GPS tracking

Hi Gurus,

I am working in the university and we have big event to come up and we need to record the attendance.

I am looking around the solution using powerapps which have less probability for student can fake their attendance. what I was thinking is to create an apps like edomondo or other running apps to record time & GPS tracking?

the use case is:

- click start event -> record start time & track GPS

- click end date -> end recording

- fill in survey & submit

have anyone knows how to record GPS & time continuesly in powerapps?

Thanks!

    Hi @Anonymous

With PowerApps, it can be difficult to carry out this type of task. This is because there's no way to track locations in the background and therefore, the device must be powered on throughout the time that you want to track the location. Between the start time and the end time, is it likely that PowerApps will be running in the foreground, without the device going into 'screen lock' mode? Here's a similar post on the issue.

How accurately do you need to track their location? If you just need to ensure they haven't left a certain area, you could use geofencing in Flow to track the times they enter and exit a specificed area, as the Flow app has background location services enabled. The times they enter and exit could be recorded in Excel/Sharepoint/wherever you fancy and then sourced in a PowerApp. You could even set up multiple Flows with different areas geofenced. However this would require every student to have Flow installed and for each of them to have their own Flow, as opposed to one Flow which has multiple users.

    Hi @RobbieGoff

    Thanks for the information.
The idea is quite insightful, but a bit too hassle for students must install flow as well..

But I will try to explore it.
    Thanks!
