Import from SQL database from another organisation

We're migrating data held in SQL from a system hosted by a 3rd party. We have no way of connecting to the database directly  so need some form of export.

What's the best option for getting the data? Export from SQL to CSV/XML or is there some form of SQL package that can be used to import to Dataverse?

TIA

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

CSV would work great, because then you can use BULK import to import the data. You can also use DSF once you have the files as well.

It depends on how complex the mappings are between tables (relationships), because when you do a mapping and or a custom import of data, you need to be able to do things like

    1. Insert data X, get the GUIDS (the autogenerated key of the row for any dataverse table) and make it available as part of an insert of a child record (relationship table).

If its a table that has no direct relationships, then Bulk Import is perfect. It will depend on how many rows you have as to length of time it takes etc though.

    Cheers

    Hello,

I would recommend using SSIS + Kingsway Adapters for Dynamics.

As I have no direct connectivity to the SQL server that hosts the current system, would this be possible???

    Hi @ThomasRConnor

No you wouldn't be able to use those tools (which is a Shame), I remember you mentioned that, thats why I suggested bulk import & dsf. And to clarify you couldn't use them to "get" the data but you can build pipelines in SSIS.

But if you have some specifics on the data size etc then setting up bulk import and or dsf, or logic apps, or a one time processing via Power Automate would work well.

    Cheers
