CoE PowerBI Dashboard tailored view at environment level

Hi Experts,

We have central IT team that manages the CoE components as well as PowerBI dashboard that provide Tenant level insights.

We have multiple environments own by individual Business Units, they have requirement to get tailored CoE PowerBI report centric to their environment. Report that could provide insights centric to specific environment instead of Tenant level.

Is there a way to customized PowerBI Dashboard to provide only single environment details to share with individual owners and how to achieve it? Similar to what Power Platform Admin portal provide Environment level insights.

Can CoE Power BI dashboard customized and those reports publish to Power BI service for respective teams to access?

You could probably create N different variations of the CoE Dashboard report and add a report level filter ("filters on all pages") in Power BI to the environment filter, then share these with specific audiences. I have no experience on implementing such a thing, so you'd need to verify the results and check that the report's data model really does filter all the visualizations when applying a filter to the Environment table.

Mainitaining this for a larger number of audiences and a growing number of environments will of course be laborious. Developing a custom row-level security model using Power BI features might be an option, but it's not something I have explored either.

In any case, you might want to think about which specific information is requried by the BU level users. Probably not all of the default CoE Dashboard needs to be available. You could leverage the core CoE dataset in Power BI service and then build a simplified custom report on top of it, with just the relevant visualizations and filters.

The reports and the inventory data included in CoE Starter Kit has been designed purely for tenant level admin/governance scenarios, so you'll need to do additional work anyway. So, it might be best to treat the Kit as a template from which you draw inspiration from, rather than trying to add features on top of its reports directly.
