Manual Authentication on Copilot with Prompt flow

Hi everyone,

I've tried many methods, but I'm stuck with my manual user authentication and I hope someone can help me.
I have a prompt step in my Copilot Studio. I'm not calling any data or similar in my prompt flow, at this stage I'm just trying to get my chat to process it.
My topic looks like this:

I followed this guide for setting up app registration using "manual authentication" for my copilot:

I get through my "message" step, but as soon as I reach the Prompt step, I get this error:

What am I doing wrong in my setup?

Hi MR-10091350-0 ,

It seems like you have missed some configuration steps while configuring the Authentication.

Ideally if configured and Published properly, it will ask for Login in the first place.

To continue pls Login?

You will need to copy the generated code and Paste it to continue.

Thank you for your response!

My screenshot with the error message is after I have logged in. This means I’ve already gone through what you described, so I was able to successfully log in with my app registration, start my chat thread, and then as soon as it reaches my Prompt step, my authentication fails, even though it works perfectly fine in testing when I, for example, select authentication for Teams.

I hope you can help me move forward, thank you in advance!

Thanks for the clarification.

Can you please let know what are you doing inside the Custom Prompt. I hope you are using some AI model to create a Custom Prompt?

This error often occurs when the system expects an authentication token to be present, but it’s either missing or expired. Ensure that the authentication token is being properly retrieved and passed along from the previous step.

Azure app might not have the right permissions or scopes assigned to perform the actions you're requesting. Check if we have Correct API permissions and Admin consent granted for those permissions.

The user session or context might not be carrying over to the Prompt step, especially if the flow involves multiple steps where the user identity might get lost.

Hi Again,

I have tried setting up a very simple prompt flow that currently doesn’t involve any external data, and I can’t even get this to work. I have logged my "activity text" to check if my bot enters the topic, and it does just fine. But when it reaches the Prompt step, I get the following error:

This is a screenshot of my prompt, where my tests, etc., work perfectly fine:

When I try to run this in, for example, the demo website, I get the option to log in with authentication, and my welcome message appears, my activity.text is logged, and then I get the error at the prompt.

I have followed the guide I linked to, meaning I have set my scopes to file.read.all and sites.read.all.
