Dear Microsoft Team,
Currently, when building Power Apps connected to Excel (on OneDrive) or SharePoint Lists, in order for users to perform data operations (e.g., add, edit, delete), we must share edit permission to the source file or list with each user.
This poses a major risk to data management and security, as users can directly access and edit the data source outside of the app’s interface. It becomes difficult to control user actions in enterprise environments where data accuracy and control are critical.
We propose the following:
Only require edit permission if the user truly needs to modify data.
Allow users to use the app with restricted access (e.g., view-only or form submission only) without requiring edit access to the underlying Excel or SharePoint List.
Alternatively, allow Power Apps to act as a trusted intermediary that processes data on behalf of users, while users do not have direct access to the source file/list.
This enhancement would improve data security, streamline permission control, and better align with enterprise-level access management practices.
Sincerely.
Tam
