Calculated Columns now say that : "The Calculated behavior will eventually be discontinued. We recommend using the Formula data type for calculations instead"

What happens to calculated columns already in production ?

I believe formula columns are out of preview. The info text still says that they are in preview when creating a formula column but when they were in preview it used to say "Formula (preview)".  I'm in a DoD tenant and we basically only get things that are out of preview and we have Formula columns available to us as of a couple months ago.  You should be safe to use Formula columns in production now.

For apps under development and to be released soon in a month, is it better to use formula columns (although they are in preview) rather than calculated columns ?

More than likely they will continue to work for a long while to give you time to migrate that column to a Formula column. “Eventually” can sometimes be years. Plan for your move out of the calculated column by creating an equivalent formula column, and see if it fits your use case. If it does everything you need, you can then change forms, views and any other place you reference the calculated column so it can be deleted.
