Barcode Reader on iOS(16.3) - Black Screen

Hello there,

I'm currently having camera issues with using the Barcode Reader feature. At the moment I'm only using a simple test to see if this feature works, so the code should have nothing to do with my issue.

When I select Barcode Reader I only get a black screen from the camera preview, but I still have access to the controls like the flashlight, zoom, back, and camera rotate. If I match my camera by guessing, I'll actually be able to scan the item even though the camera preview is black screened.

After coming to this issue, I've tried using some of the other camera features, with success, such as the: Measure in MR & the retired Barcode Scanner, and It seems like this is an issue related to the Barcode Reader feature or my phone.

Some solutions I've tried:

1. clearing cache

2. restarting the app

3. deleting the code and redoing it

4. checking camera access to app on phone

5. restarting phone

I have not tried my app on an Android or other iOS device yet, but this will the next idea I will try.

I am also seeing this problem on an IOS device. Any way to solve this?

I’m having the same issue. I have iOS 16.5. I hope someone has a fix for this very soon.

Hello Team,

Just want to ask if this issue has been resolved or has a workaround? It seems that even if the iPhone is at the latest version (16.6), the camera view is still black screen. When the phone (sometimes) is powered off, then on again, it will work for one time but the second you click the Scan button again, the black screen reappears.

Same problem here with iPhone 11, software updated to latest version. Works fine on on my iPad Air, software at latest version.
Any updates on this?

Hi Runner55552,

I reported this and was told that it was a bug and seems that it may take quite a while to resolve. I ended up using an the old BarcodeScanner from which I copied from an old app that I created. If you have that, you may just SaveAs it and modify...

Thanks. I was able to retrieve the legacy barcode scanner control within the app design by going into Settings and turning the legacy barcode scanner back on. Then you can select it as a control in the app.

The solution to fix this "barcode reader black screen" is to
- Switch the display mode to "Default" under "Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Display" and
- Reset the Font setting to default (middle position) under Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Display -> Text Size
