Turn "Title" Column Into Unique ID

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello,

Scenario

  • PowerApp generated from Sharepoint Custom List
  • First column in SP Custom List is "Title"
  • I want to use this column for Unique ID of each record in the List
    • (Yes I know each SP List has an "ID" field, I want to use the "Title" column instead because its part of every list as well and its front and center)

Question

  • Should I generate this Unique ID in my PowerApp and apply (Patch?) it to the Title Column?
  • Or is there someway to have Sharepoint create this within the list itself?

Thank you

You'll have to do that in PowerApps or using Flow. There is no way to do that in SharePoint.

    Hi Rebetcha,

Any ideas on how I'd accomplish that in PowerApps? I'm sure its something involving Patch. Not my forte yet.

    Thanks

Patch is not necessarily needed. What you could do is simply add the Title field as a hidden field in your Edit-form and set the value of the Item-ID as the text value of the Title field. Since the ID-field is always unique your title field will be too.
