Connecting a Text Input field to a Dataverse table column

I am very much a noob here (be easy on me). I am creating an app that collects data and then will need to save that data to a dataverse table that I have built. In the app, I have been able to pull the choice fields into the drop down lists. However, I want to know how I connect the fields back to the columns in the table. I am not sure that I am even asking this correctly. These columns, upon save, should write back to matching columns in the table. I will, eventually, have potentially many tables and many screens with data flowing between the table and the app (to and from). This is currently just a POC for a project idea. Please help.

    Hi @WK,

Assuming you are not using a form control, you can add a "Save" button to your app and then use a Patch() function in the OnSelect property to save the entered values from the input controls into your Dataverse table. This process is known as patching and you can find a full guide on how to do this in this article: The Ultimate Guide to Patching Dataverse Columns in Power Apps (powerapps911.com)

Hey there! No worries, we all start somewhere, and you're asking the right questions!

Instead of manually patching data, you might want to consider using an Edit Form in Power Apps. It can simplify the process of connecting your app fields back to the columns in your Dataverse table.

    Here’s what I recommend:

    1. Add an Edit Form to your app.
    2. Set the DataSource property of the form to your Dataverse table. This will bind each field in the form to the appropriate columns in your Dataverse table.
    3. When the form is submitted, the data will automatically save to the correct columns without needing to manually patch anything.

    Hopefully the image is helpful!

It might sounds like more work now, but it could be a simpler approach in the long run. Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions!

THANK YOU!!!! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I was building the form from scratch and that was not what I needed. This community is the BEST!!!
