Hi,
I need to create a PowerApps Canvas App that reads and writes data to a Sybase SQL On Prem. Currently, there is no built in connector for Sybase available for PowerApps (available for Power BI though). I would like to ask for help on what are my other options within PowerApps to make this connection work?
Thanks!
@gelog
The quickest idea that comes to my mind is, since there is a connector for Power BI only, you can use instead any supported database of your choice for the Power App, and then use self-service data prep setup of a Power BI Dataflow to synchronize the data from the supported database to Sybase. If needed, to set up on-prem gateway as well for Power BI.
Other possible options:
I don't believe this will work for Sybase, but you can attempt to use one of the other existing SQL-like connectors e.g. MySql, PostGreSQL, etc. and see if it just works anyway. This is a trick that might work for some SQL flavors. I don't think this will work for Sybase. Since you are on-prem, you might need to also set up on-prem gateway as well to try this. I mention it here anyway in case - for example, if you wanted to go ahead and write a connector yourself (which is possibly another option), a starting point would be to check how similar it is to other SQL-flavored databases before writing it.
@gelog : Thanks for making this post. I am literally dealing with the same situation. Two consultants later....no resolution. :+(The last person I spoke with told me to hire someone to open the database file through Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and to export using ETL/ELT-type software the info to a Azure database. I'm a surgeon...not a data engineer. HELPPP! 🤕
I still hoping someone shedding some light on sybase connector whether using a power query or custom connector.😔
