How to share a canvas app with a group of people?

How can I share a canvas app with a group of people using any kind of AAD group instead of having to add each person individually?

I tried this:

- AAD security group (mail-enabled or not): It is possible to search and and select such a group and click on share. However, the app is not availlable to the users in that group. Doesn't matter if the "co-owner" option is checken or not.

- Modern/O365-Groups won't even show up in the search field.

    Hi @Sokon ,

Here is an article on how to share with CDS - I don't believe it is possible with SharePoint (if it is, I would like the answer as well.

Thank you both for your answers.

@eka24: I read that article as well as the documentation before I posted. Security Groups don't work, neither mail-enabed or not. Does it work in your case?

@WarrenBelz: The canvas app I need to share uses Sharepoint, not CDS. However I don't understand how the data storage affects the shareing of an canvas app?

    Hi Sokon ,

You can share an app with Office 365 groups. However, the group must be security enabled. Enabling security ensures the Office 365 group can receive security tokens for authentication to access apps or resources.

Please check this documentation for your reference. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/share-app#share-an-app-with-office-365-groups

    Hi All,

    @EricaBao ,

That is the article I posted and reading it talks about being a CDS user.

We have Security Groups, but I have never been able to get them to come up in the PowerApps Share list. I would love this answer as well as I have 20 new field apps coming up to share with over 100 users each. We use SharePoint.

@EricaBao: Thanks for your quick reply. I'll give it a try and come back with the result.

Are you saying that I can only share with an o365-group that is security-enabled, but not with regular AAD security groups - even when these are selectable in the UI?

Hi @EricaBao, I turned an O365 group into an "security-enabled" one. After that, the group appeared in the list when I searched for it (until then, this particular group didn't show up). I added the group as "user" of the app. Then, with a user that is member (actually owner) of this group I logged in and tried to access the app. The app didn't show up in the apps list, so no change here. (I double checked the correct environment)

So far I tried to share an app with an AAD security group, AAD mail-enabled security group, O365 group an security-enabled O365 group. None of that works.

    Any further ideas?

    Hi @Sokon,

Have you checked if the users within this group have the security role "Environment Maker"?

    Hi @EricaBao

Thanks for your suggestion. I want them to use the app, not to edit it and therefore don't want to give them maker permissions.

However, I might have figured out what the problem is and it seems that I was able to share an app with an regular AAD security group.

It seems that a certain amount of time is needed until the permissions take effect. In fact that might be hours. I've seen a screenshot that shows a message telling so, though I've never seen it in my attempts. The long delays would make it almost impossible to test it thoroughly myself.

I couldn't find any information about the delay, ist there any documentation about this?

    Hi @EricaBao ,

    Can I ask something here?

I believed that Environment Makers need a per user licence whereas most users will have standard O365.

Are you saying you cannot share unless they have this?
