Dataverse: So... VERY.... slow... doing... anything!

I've been using Power Platform with Canvas apps and SharePoint lists for some time.  Not lightning fast, but "OK".

Now that I'm using the Dataverse and model-driven apps, I'm shocked at how *SLOW* everything is!  All I'm doing is some rudimentary imports of Excel data (via dataflows), creating tables/dataflows, using Dynamics 365 for bulk deletes, etc.  EVERYTHING IS SO VERY SLOW!

After being accustomed to in-house server-based tools (Oracle, SQL Server, C/C++, .Net, etc.) have I become "spoiled"?  Is the "new way" to just lower expectations and assume dataverse (cloud) runs horribly slow, and that's how it is?

I've been in IT since the early 80s, using PCs, minis, mainframes and Unix.  I have *NEVER* seen anything as slow this since batch-processing runs on a Univac mainframe in the late 70's at college.

Note:  I'm using a G3 (not commercial) tenant.

I have the same question (0)

    yes,

Dataverse is slower than the systems you mentioned (like a .NET app connected to a SQL Server) but as you have experience in IT how long do you think will take for you to build a system like model-driven apps with the table creation, import of excel and bulk delete? add on top of that the security model and the field level security you have oob on Dataverse.

It depends on the tools.  With Oracle, SQL*Forms & SQL*Reports, along with Informatica PowerCenter?  Much faster.  Once the industry moved to the web-based environment where you need to know countless tools to get anything done?  Much longer.  As an "old geezer", I lament how poorly most cloud-based tools work.  But no, I don't miss rotary phones, VCRs, FAX-machines or having only 3 TV stations. 😉

I do recognize the potential power of the PowerPlatform tools, but was indeed wondering if it was just inherently VERY slow, or if there is something wrong with our tenant. It's not as slow when running an app (still embarrassingly slow), but most of the delays are during development.

Seriously considered quitting my job due to this several times. Whoever made this hates developers.
