Deploying Power Apps in a Large Organisation

Hi

We are starting out on our PowerApps journey and we are looking for best practices for deploying PowerApps (At least 100) across 7 Business Units and for approximately 16,000 users.  I have read and digested the Microsoft WhitePaper "Administering a low-code development platform -Power Apps and Power Automate Enterprise Deployment" by David Yack.  The deployment of Critical Apps and Shared Prod does not seem appropriate in our case as we could end up with nearly 100 PowerApps in the same environment so trying to find one will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.  I cannot believe that other big deployments have not solved this problem.

Thanking you in advance

Nigel

    Hi @NigelP ,

We did similar implementation for enterprise level customers by setting up by enabling Center of Excellence Tool Kit officially available in MS website. I understand your scenario its basically enabling multiple environments for each business unit instead of using a single environment by this way you will be able to control users accessing on  the apps what they are supposed to view.

    Link for COE kit: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/introducing-the-powerapps-center-of-excellence-starter-kit/

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Hi @SarathMohan

I have installed the Centre of Excellence toolkit.  I have been on Manuela Pichler's Admin in a day course, but I do not recollect any best practise for deploying PowerApps into a large organisation.

Should I have one environment per Business Unit ? or One for critical PowerApps ? a then number of other environments ? or what ?  Other large companies must have gone down this route.  What is their experience ?  What have they done ?

    Thanking You In Advance

    Hi @NigelP ,

Yes it depends on how you have to group the apps. Ideally  all apps which needs to be exposed to end users will be grouped unders business unit specific hence it will be easy to share apps etc.Now all the admin apps or critical apps can be part of a separate environment. As part of COE kit there are many useful apps which can be leveraged by Admins  to monitor environments etc. We should be able to automate all the environment acitviites, monitoring using this.

    Regards,

    Sarath Mohan
