What is a CDS Endpoint?

From the Excel Add-in, you can choose one of three endpoints - Production, TIP1, or Direct Connect.

For practical purposes, Production is the endpoint that works for me.

Out of curiosity, can someone explain what a CDS Endpoint is, and the purpose of the TIP1 and Direct Connect endpoints?

Thanks!

    Hi @timl,

There is no documentation for that part.

Maybe Staff @CWesener could share some insights on this.

Per testing, I think you also noticed that when switching the CDS EndPoint, the connection would change its value based on the selection:

    Production: YourEnvironmentName

    TIP1: Blank

    Direct Connect: https://pa-rts-sf-b62159fc810-prod-southeastasia.rsu.powerapps.com/namespaces/[GUID]

And all would work for me to save the data, when choose publish.

I suspect the Direct Connect would switch the connection to the database directly, with the authentication specified with the Excel PowerApps Add-in.

By switching back to Production, it would need you to select an Environment.

For me it should be different definition for Connection, as the Data Management seems to be no difference.

    Regards,

    Michael

    Hi @timl,

This is mainly used for our internal testing of the application. TIP1 is a testing environment for Microsoft internal use and Direct Connect allows an environment to be manually specified.

For your scenarios, you should always be using Prod unless directed by support/MS that a change is needed.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi @CWesener, @v-micsh-msft

Thanks very much for the clarification. I think it definitely helps all of us here to understand the purpose of these settings.
