What is the current maximum supported Adaptive Card version for PVA?

Hello,

I have a question regarding Adaptive Cards in Power Virtual Agents. I have run into an issue where the maximum allowed version for the Adaptive Card schema changes every few weeks. When I initially started implementing Adaptive Cards in my PVA bot, I received a render error when trying to implement version 1.3. The error indicated that the maximum supported version was 1.2.

After some time, I discovered that version 1.3 was working a few weeks ago and could properly render in PVA. This was good news as I am interested in handling data validation through the Adaptive Card. However, in recent weeks, I have been running into the issue where one moment version 1.3 is rendering correctly and then the next moment, I get a render error telling me that the maximum supported version is 1.2.

I have been using the Adaptive Card designer to create the cards and Bot Framework Composer to publish the content for the Adaptive Cards to use in Power Virtual Agents. I have also been following the documentations for all of these tools closely.

From my understanding, the rendering of the Adaptive Cards is handled by processes behind PVA as the only thing I can do on my end is simply indicate what version of the schema I want to use. Also, I would like to note that the Adaptive Card designer does not indicate nor mention PVA as a partner so it is difficult to determine exactly what features are supported currently or will be supported in the future.

Is there an issue with version 1.3 that prevents it from properly working in PVA? Should I instead use 1.4 or 1.5 if those will work? Is there perhaps a problem with the bot's files, such as file corruption during the publishing of Bot Framework Composer content? Could this be some kind of cache problem on a server where the bot is saved? Did I perhaps miss a setting or somehow I am currently using an outdated version of PVA? I have tried clearing the cache in my local browser and this has not helped as far I as could tell with solving the issue because since yesterday, version 1.3 started working again. I have also searched online to see if such an issue has happened before and have found no information.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I too would like an official statement indicating the currently supported versions of Adaptive Cards for PVA.

The thread you linked is from 2020-2021. The platform that was referenced was Webchat, not Power Virtual Agents. As of the moment of this writing, version 1.3 is still working. However, what I found odd was that support seemed to come and go every few weeks. One moment version 1.3 is working and in the next, I get an error message telling me that version 1.2 is the maximum supported version.

It would be nice to have an official statement indicating what the maximum supported version of Adaptive Cards is for Power Virtual Agents. If you look at the Adaptive Card designer, there is no indication there what version this platform supports. It would be nice to know what the future plans are for Power Virtual Agents and what features to expect to prepare for.

Short answer is version 1.2.  I know because I had this same issue, searched the Power User forums for 'Adaptive card version issue' and saw posts that said you must use 1.2.  Recently I saw a post that stated version 1.3 will be supported in March.  Consider supporting AdaptiveCards with schema 1.3 · Issue #3487 · microsoft/BotFramework-WebChat · GitHub.
