I have noticed in the last weeks-- that when after making changes-- the save button remains disabled.

    Also remember by default the autosave will run ever 2 minutes. Is there any chance at all that you are simply being autosaveda nd not realizing it?

    yes auto-save was on (which im pretty sure i turned off some time ago). thats probably it- but will keep an eye on it. thanks.
