Display a SharePoint Document view quantity

As part of the app we are building which is a photo contest app we are looking to display a variety of statistics of the photo within the app. So far we are able to display Rating average, Quantity of ratings and users individual rating.

If possible we would also like to display the quantity of views of the photo. If this data is not logged by SharePoint we would consider writing this information to a related list which we already do for ratings however would prefer to surface it if already there. If anyone has any ideas or guidance here it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Dudditz ,

You did not say how the photos were stored - I will assume a SharePoint Library or displayed (selected from a gallery?).

It would be a matter of having a Numeric field somewhere as a counter which is updated whenever the user opens the photo, but how you do this will depend on the factors above.

Hi Warren, yes a SharePoint doc library is where they are stored. I was thinking of creating a separate list that would have a record created when a user views a file that would include the ID of the original image from the doc library, employee email, and the view or number one. With a collection I could than countrows on this without delegation issues. Maybe this is over engineered? Is this as simple as using a numeric field within the doc library? I thought about this however not sure what the formula would be to best not have issues with conflicts. For example, what would happen if 2-3 people are viewing the file at the same time if it was a single field in the same picture library? Your thoughts?

The idea of the numeric field was to increment it by one every time someone opened the picture - is this your concept?
