How to make Copilot Studio agent reference SharePoint anchor links instead of base page?

I'm building a low-code agent using Microsoft Copilot Studio under a licensed setup. The agent uses a SharePoint page as its knowledge source. When users ask questions, the agent responds accurately and includes reference links. However, clicking these links currently redirects users to the top of the SharePoint page, rather than to the specific section containing the relevant information.

The expected behaviour is for the link to navigate directly to the corresponding section of the page, allowing users to view the answer without needing to scroll.

For example, for the question “What are compliance-with-standards?”, the agent replies with:
https://sharepoint.com/sites/Sample/SitePages/What-is-the-Acquisition-Manual-.aspx

But I want it to link directly to the relevant section:
https://sharepoint.com/sites/Sample/SitePages/What-is-the-Acquisition-Manual-.aspx#10.-compliance-with-standards

From the agent configuration perspective in Microsoft Copilot Studio, how can we enable responses to include section-specific anchor links when referencing a SharePoint page?The goal is for users to be directed straight to the relevant section of the page, rather than landing at the top. Any guidance, configuration steps, or examples would be greatly appreciated!

SharePoint supports anchor links.

Here are the steps to setup and test via CP which do work :-)

How to enable section-specific links
To achieve the behavior you want, you need two things:

Anchor IDs in SharePoint

SharePoint automatically creates anchor IDs for headings (H1, H2, etc.) in modern pages.
The anchor format is usually:
#<heading-text-lowercase-with-hyphens>

Example:
Heading: 10. Compliance with Standards
Anchor: #10.-compliance-with-standards

Configure Copilot Studio to include anchors in responses

In Copilot Studio, when you define your knowledge source (SharePoint page), the AI uses the page content but does not inherently know which section the answer came from.

To include anchors:

Enable “Show citations” in the Copilot Studio settings for your knowledge source.
Then, customize the citation template in your response using Adaptive Cards or Markdown to append the anchor ID.

Example: https://sharepoint.com/sites/Sample/SitePages/What-is-the-Acquisition-Manual-.aspx#10.-compliance-with-standards

Thanks, Michael Gernaey. In SharePoint portal, Anchor IDs are available, I am trying to follow your instruction to enable the below settings in Microsoft Co-pilot studio licenced version but this option is not shown for me.

To include anchors:

Enable “Show citations” in the Copilot Studio settings for your knowledge source.
Then, customize the citation template in your response using Adaptive Cards or Markdown to append the anchor ID.
