Lookup column saving the wrong value

I have a canvas app for reporting incidents and have a look up field called "Affected Person" which has a list of employees to choose from to show who has been affected by the incident. Having the issue where if there are employees with the same name (but different IDs), the wrong employee is being added to the lookup when saved.

E.g - John Smith (1129) selected but when saved it is saved with John Smith (1140).

Any ideas on why this would be happening?

You probably need to provide some more details as the obvious answer would be that the user chose the wrong person.

Is this also occurring when there isn't a similar name?

Are you sorting on name anywhere or performing a lookup on name where the first matching name is chosen.

Hi,

To prevent confusion when employees share the same name, you can display both the employee's name and ID in the dropdown or combo box. To do this, set the lookup field’s “DisplayFields” property to:

["fullname & ' (' & ID & ')'"]

This format will show each employee as, for example, John Smith (1129), helping users select the correct employee. Alternatively, you can substitute another field in place of ID if a different identifier better suits your needs.
