SharePoint Managed Identity: Document Management integration

Hi all,

I am creating a custom Model-Driven App, and I am integrating it with SharePoint for document management.
Reading about it, I came across this Microsoft Documentation: Configure Azure app for SharePoint access - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn, and I don't quite understand the use case for this.

It says that now a managed identity will be needed to access the SharePoint Document table outside of the document grid in Model-Driven Apps. What is the use of accessing this table in a plugin or Power Automate? Is it possible to add or modify documents in SharePoint with this table?

I also don't see any example on how to use this managed identity to access SharePoint from a plugin or Power Automate.

Any additional information on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi
The Microsoft documentation on configuring an Azure app for SharePoint access in Power Platform provides detailed steps on how to set up and use managed identities for accessing SharePoint Document tables outside of the document grid in Model-Driven Apps.

. Here’s a breakdown of the key points and use cases:

Use Case for Accessing SharePoint Document Table

    1. Integration with Plugins and Power Automate:
      • Plugins: You can use the SharePoint Document table in custom plugins to automate document management tasks, such as creating, updating, or deleting documents based on specific business logic.
      • Power Automate: Automate workflows that involve document management, such as moving documents between libraries, updating metadata, or triggering notifications based on document changes.

    Managed Identity for Access

    • Managed Identity: This is a feature of Azure Active Directory that provides an identity for applications to use when connecting to resources that support Azure AD authentication. It simplifies the management of credentials.
    • Configuration Steps:
      1. Create an Azure Application: Register an app in Azure AD and configure it with the necessary SharePoint permissions.
      2. Set Up Managed Identities in Dataverse: Create managed identity records in Dataverse to enable secure access to SharePoint.
