Trying to build a risk assessment app for travelers

Hi! I'm very new to Power Apps but I'm very willing to learn and be able to harness the tool!

Essentially, I'm trying to create an app that my travelers will be able to fill out before their trip. I have an excel sheet containing the parameters which have the different risks (Number of travelers, duration, country risk, etc.) and each level of that risk (low, medium, high/extreme). The goal would be to assign a value to each answer (ex: low=1, medium=2, and high=3), and for the value to trigger a specific email response depending on the risk level.

I'm not sure if it's entirely possible but I'm reaching out in hopes of connecting with some Power Apps veterans! Any tips are appreciated.

Thanks,

    Hi!

    Firstly, this is absolutely possible!

The exact specifics of how it would work are up to you, but here's a few tools/ideas to point you in the right direction:

    • To start, you could use a form, or manually add the input controls, and then calculate the risk once a user has entered something.
    • You can easily connect an excel sheet, and many other data sources very easily to power apps(My personal preference is to use Sharepoint or Dataverse) - don't be afraid to make a second data source and connect them if you need to. It sounds like here you may want one to store trips or risk factors.
    • Sending emails can be done easily using either the Outlook connector, or if you need more options/to do other things, you can use a power automate flow
    • For inspiration, or if you're wanting to learn generally how something works, there's a massive amount of valuable resources online - the two I use most are: Power Apps Official Docs & Matthew Devaney's website.
    • For very specific questions(errors, making a specific line of code, ect. ), asking questions on here, or looking for previous similar questions, is generally the best way to go, in my opinion

    Hope this helps! 🙂
