Data not visible with excel connector

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue with a PowerApp that pulls data from several Excel files using the Excel Business Connector. The app owner can see all the data without any problem, but there are two users who cannot see any data at all.

Has anyone experienced this before? What could be possible reasons that prevent these users from seeing the data, even though the owner has full access?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Does the two users have access to the location of excel files?

    The owner told me yes

    Additional information:

The user who cannot see anything is assigned permissions through an AD group.

The other user is a co-owner, but can only see part of the data, not all of it.

Have you tried sharing the excel sheet  (database) with the AD group?

If the shared Excel file is in OneDrive, you will need to move it to a SharePoint Library and share it from there. MS recently disabled the ability to use OneDrive files other than the User's as Power Apps Data Sources for security reasons - please refer to this article, particularly item #12
Cross-drive functionality is not supported in the OneDrive for Business connector. The connector can only operate on the account used to make the connection to the connector and on data owned by that account. That limitation includes files and folders added with Add to Onedrive / Add shortcut.

All the files are stored in 1 OneDrive under Person X’s account. There are three types of users (excluding Person X), somehow each with different levels of access to the data:

Type 1: Full access to all data via the PowerApp.

Type 2: Limited access—can view some files-data via the PowerApp but not all.

Type 3: No access to any data via the PowerApp.

I've already checked the file permissions, and everything is properly shared.

Is this access issue related to Cross-drive functionality, or could there be another cause? Because why can Type 1 access the data normaly??

Sorry, I probably was not clear enough in my post - Microsoft have disabled the ability of anyone other than the user (who owns the OneDrive) to access data in an Excel File stored there via Power Apps. You need to move the Excel file to a SharePoint Library (and share the file) and access it from there.

    Hi WarrenBelz,

thanks for the clarification, I understand that now. But if only the OneDrive owner can access the Excel file via Power Apps, then technically no one else should be able to access the data, right?

However, in our case, some people are still able to access the data even though the file is stored in a user’s OneDrive — while others cannot. That’s why I’m a bit confused. Do you know what might be causing this difference?

Or is it the case that users who had access before a certain point in time can still access the file, but newly shared users no longer can — meaning access only works via SharePoint from now on?

It worked for other users in OneDrive before MS made the change - it does not work now.

Ok we tested it with a sharepoint, now we got this error by opnening the app:
Die haben keine Berechtigung zum Anzeigen dieser Daten. Serverantwort: Fehler bei "Update_KST_AIREM": The request is forbidden by Graph API. Error code is 'accessDenied'. Error message is 'Access denied'. clientRequestId: 9937d788-bbe9-44e0-843e-0a9344802899 serviceRequestId: 89143206-9371-4561-9bc3-5f4811558ff1

They do not have permission to view this data. Server response: Error in “Update_KST_AIREM”: The request is forbidden by Graph API. Error code is ‘accessDenied’. Error message is ‘Access denied’. clientRequestId: 9937d788-bbe9-44e0-843e-0a9344802899 serviceRequestId: 89143206-9371-4561-9bc3-5f4811558ff1
