Handle importing LookUp Columns in Data Verse

Hello Everyone,

I have multiple tables that I'm planning to import from Azure to data verse tables. All the tables I'm planning to import are tables related to each other, like the lookup columns set up. Can anyone please suggest best way on how we handle the import to have the same relation? also, the columns like created by, modified by columns to map to the existing columns in data verse default tables.

Thank you so much in advance!

I have the same question (0)

@KrishR Is it just the data you want to move? Or the tables themselves you want to create (ie. the schema/metadata) in Dataverse?

    Hi @KrishR ,

Can you walk me through how you are looking to import or is this what you are trying to determine?  When you say "Azure", what type of source here?

    Import Options:

    1. Dataflows - Map the data using PowerQuery into Dataverse tables.  Normally in this situation you can utilize approach as defined here (https://www.apprising.co.nz/post/how-to-map-a-lookup-column-in-a-power-platform-dataflow
    2. Excel Table Template - This is the approach I honestly utilize the most.  Export the template for the table from the Power Platform admin center and it provides all the columns for the table.  I map this data from my external source (most of the time move to Excel and then map the fields and put into the format required by the template).  Lookup columns can be mapped easily here (as long as the Primary Name field is unique in the related table) but entering the primary name field value in this field.  See next option if the primary name field is not unique in the lookup table...

    3. Data Import Wizard (overview) - The data import wizard can help you map to other fields in the related table if the Primary Name field is not unique (note the field would need to be unique in the related table).

    Hi @parvezghumra ,

    Thanks for your time!

I was provided data with the excel sheets. Goal is to have them in data verse with the same relation/lookup. And tables were created by import data and choose the excel sheet and create as a new table. I'm not creating the columns and importing data.

    HI @dpoggemann ,

Thanks for you input. That'll be helpful. I'll look into the options you provided.

    Thanks for your help again!

    Hi @dpoggemann ,

Thanks for your time. Please correct me if I'm wrong, the options mentioned above needs the table columns created and then map it with the importing data on excel.

I'm looking for a way where I can directly import the excel sheet and create a new table without having the table created before. Also, I have lookup or relation with other tables.

Can you please let me know if there are any possible ways to achieve.

    Thanks again!

    Hi @KrishR ,

The dataflow can create the columns on import.  You can map to a new table...  Others all require it to be setup already.
