How can a Maker create custom roles for their apps without being an admin?

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a project in Power Apps and need help with a role configuration. I currently have a user with the Maker role, and I’d like to know if it’s possible for this user to create custom roles for their apps without needing to be assigned an admin role in the environment.

The goal is for the user to manage specific roles for the apps they build, but without granting them administrative privileges that could impact the entire environment.

Is there any specific configuration or workaround in Power Platform to achieve this? I’d appreciate any advice or guidance.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi  @

    Role Configuration in Power Apps

Based on the information gathered, here are the key points regarding role configuration in Power Apps:

    Environment Maker Role

The Environment Maker role allows users to create resources within an environment, including apps, connections, custom APIs, and flows using Power Automate. However, this role does not grant privileges to access data in the environment or create custom roles.

    Custom Roles and Permissions

To create custom roles and manage permissions for apps, users typically need higher privileges such as the System Customizer or System Administrator roles. These roles provide the necessary permissions to customize the system, including creating and managing security roles.

    Workaround for Custom Roles

If you want a user with the Maker role to manage specific roles for their apps without granting them administrative privileges, here are some potential approaches:

    1. Delegate Customization Tasks: Assign the System Customizer role temporarily to the user for the purpose of creating custom roles and configurations. Once the task is completed, you can remove this role.

    2. Use Security Groups: Instead of creating custom roles, you can use security groups to manage access to specific apps and resources. The Environment Maker can share apps with individual users, security groups, or all users in the organization.

    3. Limited Admin Access: Consider granting limited admin access to a trusted user who can manage roles and permissions without impacting the entire environment. This can be done by carefully configuring the permissions associated with the System Customizer role.
