Back up and restore environments

Hello,

I really need a clarification about this Microsoft Documentation about the back up and restore environments: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/backup-restore-environments

In the About System backups section: it says

  • Only Power Apps and Power Automate flows in a Dataverse solution participate in backup and restore operations???

1) Does it mean that Only Power Apps, and flows that were created in/added to a "Solution" will be restored?

2) What about the Model-Driven Apps and Portals?

3) Would the Power Apps, Flows, and connections breaks if I restore an environment to itself?

Thank you

    Hi @AhmedSalih ,

    To answer your questions:

    1. Correct.

    2. Model-driven apps and Portals are kinds of Power Apps.

    3. It depends. See below doc:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/faq#after-restoring-a-dataverse-environment-from-an-old-backup--the-portal-connected-to-the-organization-isn-t-working--how-do-we-fix-it-

    Hope this helps.

    @v-jefferni , thank you.

I found this information and it seems that there are going to be a lot of follow-up steps after an environment restore.

What steps are needed after a restore to ensure flows are working as expected?

    • Flows - Review the flows in the environment. Edit flows that need triggers and actions adjusted. Enable and disable flows as needed.
    • Connection References - Connection References will require new connections. Create and set connections on Connection References.
    • Custom Connectors - Custom connectors should be reviewed and, if needed, deleted and reinstalled.

Are apps shared with Everyone still shared with Everyone in a restored environment?

No. Apps shared with Everyone in an environment that's backed up are not shared with Everyone in the restored environment. Alternatively, a canvas app can be shared with a security group and the app in the restored environment will be shared with that security group.

Are Power Apps app identifiers the same after backup and restore operations?

No for canvas apps. The app ID for a canvas app is different in a restored environment than the ID value when an environment was backed up. << (This one is what scare me the most if I am planning to use the deep linking to my app from Automate, I will have trace back every time I used the old identifier and change it 🤦‍)
