Don't add more than 500 controls in one app.

As convenient as the PowerApps are, we have been developing internal apps using PowerApps for quite a while. Though we just recently found that there is this certain limitation in performance-tips section which states "Don't add more than 500 controls in one app. Power Apps generates an HTML document object model to render each control. The more controls you add, the more generation time Power Apps needs.".

We are wondering what actually would happen if we have more than 500 controls in one app (which is also true for some of our apps). Because it happens one of our "most controls" apps (1,845 controls) would go down sometimes and we couldn't find the reason. (both in edit and user mode)

When we want to enter a certain screen...

(in user mode the UI disappear as well)

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

    Hi @chienhsianghung

1845 is a lot of controls - I have  couple between 500 and 1,000 which work fine. A couple of tips on reducing controls (assuming you do not know them already)

    • If you are not using the Error and Star fields in forms for validation, delete them as this is 40% of the controls in a card.
    • Make headers one Text column rather than multiple.
    • A Gallery is one control with only one lot of labels counted - so use them
    • You can re-purpose various controls such as icons and buttons, which can use a difference icon type/ button text and OnSelect depending on what you are doing.
    • If you want to display a number of fields as read-only on a Form, use one Custom Card and one Label for them all (or two labels if you want different font/size for the headings).

To add on to @WarrenBelz 's great tips, I've a short blog post on using creative formulas, removing unnecessary controls, and building components, which might also help you in getting some ideas flowing.
