Azure AD global Admin vs Global admin (Data Lake export)

Hi,

I want to setup the self-service Data Lake export for Power Platform data (apps and flows).

In the Microsoft documentation it says "[...] setup must be performed by a user who is a member of your organization's Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) Global Admin built-in role with elevated access to subscriptions. Or a Global Admin who has [...]".

Where is the difference between the two (Azure AD Global Admin and Global Admin)?

How does a user get the "Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) Global Admin built-in role with elevated access to subscriptions"?

Regards

    Hi,

Global Admin it's the role with full capabillities in a Azure tenant. Normally these users create the Azure resources, like a Storage account, the resource that you need to configure Data Export.
To configure Data Export only needs this Storage Account and that your user is Contributor of this resource.

    Hi @AlbertoCastro,

thank you for your quick reply, but you are not answering my question. I know what a Global Admin does, but I'm confused because the documentation suggests a difference between "Azure AD Global Admin" and "Global Admin", which (as far as I know) are the same.

"To configure Data Export only needs this Storage Account and that your user is Contributor of this resource."

That is contradictory to what the documentation says. It explicitly states in an info box that the user setting up the connection must be a Global Admin, not just any user with Contributor access to the resource.

    OK, sorry.

The difference is on the scope of these roles: Azure AD Global Admin is of the entire tenant and the Global Admin restricts its privileges on Microsoft 365 services.

Yes, but not all Microsoft documentation is correct 🙂

I have configure Data Export also and only needed have to contributor permissions in the storage account.
