I am an Access developer exploring if I should learn Power Apps. My first question is what is the best data sources for a Power Apps? I tried experimenting with SharePoint lists but SP is an unreliable because the lists columns always don't store data. Is Excel the way to go?

you should go with SharePoint Online or Dataverse instead of using Excel because most projects come with SharePoint or Dataverse because of security

for learning purposes, i would suggest using SharePoint

Not sure about SharePoint lists. I noticed that the columns always don't update/display entered data and remain blank, which presumably will display null data fields in Power Apps. SP lists are hit or miss. Not reliable data source.

My organization's license doesn't allow me to share Dataverse tables with other users. If Excel is my only option to build apps, I am sticking with Access and SQL. I was hoping to help some of my team members build a few quick cloud / mobile Power apps, but it looks like excel data sources are not the way to go. Hoping Microsoft will soon make SharePoint lists as a reliable Power App data source soon.

    Thanks.

After doing more research, I learned that SharePoint is a document management system, but it is not a designed to be database solution. I don't see why anyone would use it to build Power Apps solutions. Building apps using SP list is most likely a gamble. That said, I have spent a good part of my day attempting to enter data into SharePoint columns, directly in the SP List, with mixed results. Some of the columns read the data. Others don't. Conversely, when you enter data directly into an Access table via table view, or by using a form, ALL the columns actually record and display the data.
