Desktop Client crashing when creating app from template

I'm trying to create an app using the 'Site Inspection' phone template in the desktop client, and am able to define the datasource as an Excel file in OneDrive for Business, but when I click the 'Use' button, the program will hang for about 5 seconds and then close with no error or prompt.

    Hi KHoyle,

Before you click on User button, the connection on the right bottom is where you put the excel datasource file that already included in the sample app. It should not be your own excel file. I'm not having your issue. Please clarify this and then have a try:

    Hi Mona,

I'm still seeing the same behaviour. I go to create the app from the template, and then select OneDrive for Business as the data source using my credentials. When I click Use, the app crashes with no error or feedback. I have tried reinstalling the app as well with no luck.

I'm having the same issue. It seems to be when I create andy app from template. I've tried with the Budget Tracker and Google Drive, the Alumni Association and Common Data Service... each one causes the desktop app to hang for around 5 seconds and then close.

I have just updated the desktop app to 2.0.590.

    Hi,

Thanks for your report and sorry that you are running into issues, we are actively investigating.

Do you know what Windows SKU are you running? Is it by any chance Windows N or Windows KN?

We believe this may be crashing due to running in a Windows N sku without the Media Pack that would crash due to the fact that we are unable to play an animation.

Could you please let us know if that is indeed Windows 8.1 N SKU?

Here is the Media Pack for Windows N sku in case that is the case, so wonder if this would help mitigate the issue.

    Thanks,

It is N for Windows 10 Enterprise. I installed this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48231 but with no luck.

I then found a thread which mentioned there was an update to this, but installing KB3099229  didn't resolve it either

    Stackoverflow:

    http://superuser.com/questions/1006240/windows-media-feature-pack-not-working-correctly

Neither updates appear in Control Panel as installed updates for me - similar to the original poster in the stack exchange post, except his problem was resolved after installing KB3099229.

We will roll out some improvements to address the "App from template" animation issue, however the experience will not be optimal since media features (such as using Video control, or Audio, or other areas) may not behave as expected given the Media support not being available. We will continue to investigate.
