Connect EHR to Power Apps

I am looking to build an app that can ingest data for all of my clinic's patients from the EHR (eClinicalWorks) and perform the following:

1) See the CPT codes assigned to each patient

2) See the patient's current insurance

3) See patient's age and date of birth

I am struggling to understand how to connect Power Apps/Power Platform to the EHR. From googling, I am seeing a lot of references to Microsoft's Healthcare Toolkit and Azure FHIR server, but I dont have the budget for Microsoft's Healthcare Cloud.

Is there a way that I can connect my Power App directly to eClinicalWorks?

    Hi @Chris_Hilger ,

Check with eClinicalWorks: Ask them if they have a way for apps to connect and get data (an API).

Get Access: If they have an API, get the access keys or whatever they require to connect to it.

Follow the Rules: Make sure you're handling patient data safely and legally.

Set Up in Power Apps: Use Power Apps to connect to the eClinicalWorks API. You may need to create a 'custom connector' in Power Apps to do this.

Pull the Data: Set up your app to ask the eClinicalWorks system for the patient data you need.

Stay Safe: Test everything to make sure it works and keeps patient info secure.

If this works for you, please mark it as the "Accepted Solution."

    Hi @Chris_Hilger ,

To connect eClinicalWorks (EHR) with Power Apps without using Microsoft's Healthcare Cloud, you'll need to explore alternative integration methods. Here's a simplified approach:

    API Integration:

Check if eClinicalWorks offers an API (Application Programming Interface) for integration. APIs allow different software to communicate and share data.
If available, you can use Power Apps' custom connectors to connect to the eClinicalWorks API and pull the required data (CPT codes, insurance details, age, DOB).
    Data Export and Import:

If API integration is complex, another method could be regularly exporting data from eClinicalWorks (if it allows) and importing it into a SharePoint list or a database connected to Power Apps.
You can automate this process with Power Automate to reduce manual workload.
    Data Security and Compliance:

Ensure that any integration complies with healthcare data regulations like HIPAA.
Securely handle patient data, especially when transferring between systems.
    Building the Power App:

Once you have the data accessible, design your Power App to display and interact with this data as per your requirements.

I hope this gets you on the right track! If you find my solution helpful, please feel free to accept it. 😊
